5 Jan 2009: Luckiest man alive

Its a priviliege to work and live in Camps Bay.
Its also a unique experience to see a season, unfold before you eyes, every day from start to finish.

Whenever we work on the beach there is a connection to the environment, a sense of being a small piece of a bigger picture, a microcosm within a macrocosm. It require giving over a false sense of control that we all have in life, and finding a greater flow with our enviroment.

This is a lesson that Camps Bay teaches me every day, and I never tire of it.

I see people drawn to the same sunset. Bankers, waiters and students, families, tourists and singletons, - out of uniform, out labels, just people enjoying life as one collective. Its at these times, when nature is bigger than our indvidual perceptions that I think that mankind has a chance.

People often ask me if the work is tiring? Yes, its hard work. But every day, at the going to down of the sun, we feel peace, warmth and mellowness. I honour another day of learning and growing, and the priviliege I have been given to mentor staff, serve customers, and add value to life.
