18 Jan 2009: Where my heart is free

I love weather like this. Its nature raw, and having sat for the most days of the last 7 summers, I have come to appreciate the this raw beauty of the backdrop we face everyday. Sometimes I want to shake people who cannot see the incredible story of nature playing out in front of their eyes.

There is no quiet place in the white man's cities. No place to hear the
unfurling of leaves in spring, or the rustle of an insect's wings. But
perhaps it is because I am a savage and do not understand
. ...

The air is precious to the red man, for all things share the same
breath--the beast,
the tree, the man, they all share the same breath.

The white man does not seem to notice the air he breathes.

1854 Speech of Great Chief Seattle, Ted Perry version.

So next time you curse the wind, or 'bad weather', consider that it is these SE winds that bring summer to Cape Town, and it is the NW winds that bring incredible waves and stupendous sunsets to our shores. And its a show that plays out for you every day, every morning, every evening. No days off, No complaints.

Such consistency could anchor a life well lived, don't you think?
